I moved to Fresno about 3 years ago. It was a tough choice…I was coming from Morro Bay, after all, and in the end, it took a serious family illness to get me here.

So I’m calling the services we’ll need, utilities, satellite, the usual, and two of those services asked for my profession as they were signing me up. I said I was an artist working in fine art restoration/reproduction. (I’ve since moved into graphic art, but that’s another story.) BOTH services said something like, “They have a need for that in Fresno?”

I wish I was joking. Heck, I’m not even exaggerating. I knew Fresno had an image problem, but that’s just crazy to get dissed by anonymous hive workers in some far away corporate cubicle as I’m signing up for satellite service.

I can’t lie, so I’ll just admit it, those experiences started me off with a grouchy attitude here. That and the heat. And the air quality. Here’s the weird thing, though. Yeah, I have some complaints, but the one thing I can’t b-tch about is that there’s nothing to do! There is SO much happening, and yet people think the Fresno scene is dead.

Art is alive and real in Fresno. I have to admit that Morro Bay can be kinda sleepy, and the artists tend to enjoy seascapes. Not that there’s anything wrong with seascapes…necessarily…but it’s not Broadway Studios. If I want to hear live music, there’s always somewhere to go.

I was lucky enough to see Gregory Hines before he passed away. He was such an amazing man, and when he was here, he shared the stage with some of our local dancers. Wow, we have talent!

Anyhow, I’m not a musician, but I love music–all types from R&B to world to classic rock. I wanted to start a blog to share my love of music and to post all the stuff that’s happening here in Fresno.

So, if anyone out there is reading this, share your music with me. Let me know if you’ll be playing somewhere, and I’ll post it on the site. There’s so much to do in this town, and I want to do my part to get the word out.

I have my first playlist up, and it’s some of my favorite world music — Middle Eastern! I love the rhythms, the slight discordance, and the minor modes.

Mosavo produces some amazing stuff. I have a few of his songs in this first playlist…and you’ll be hearing more of his work as I put up more lists.
